Hi all

We are moving A.J's insurance and don't know who to go with. At the moment we are with the dreaded E & L .

We have had a quote for Animal Friends Insurance has anyone had any dealings with them.

Please help we are in need of good advice.

Cheers.

Hey There, not sure if recomend, as quite expensive now but we are with Argos, platinum cover, started at £30 odd, but after a year we are now paying £48 a month for Leo and £42 for Tiggy, luckily it didnt go up this year. Cant change as Leo has HD and wouldnt be covered anywhere else. But I must say we always get a cheque within a week and we have got pretty much all the money back in vet bills. Also our vet accept payment straight from Argos if it is a big sum. Leo has Hydrotheraphy every week and when I put a claim in, they paid more then I asked as on receips were treats at each session and they have covered that as well :D must have been a mistake though :D maybe get a quote, just beware after one year they might put it up.

I'm with Virgin who are fairly cheap, but I guess you can't really recommend insurance companies until you've had to claim.. I've been with Virgin for 2 years, although I found that Phoebe's renewal came through more expensive than if I was a new customer, so I just cancelled it and signed up again. The swines!

I'm with Allianz petplan. Not a lot of insurance companies in Ireland do decent quotes and decent cover but petplan seem the best. Quite cheap too, about €22 a month for Henry so they might be worth a look over there too

I'm with M&S and have been very happy with them. So far they have paid out about £1,500 for George's tail operations/treatment. Paid up very quick, no hassle. I pay £35 a month.

i also have nothing but great things to say about Marks ans spencer. they paid out 7,300 in a period of 5 months when my old lad had a spleenecyomy and then he had a gastric torsion which he also survived. He then had to be hospitalised again for a few days and my vet dealt with ma nd s direct so I only ever paid my excess. they were fantastic when he passed away and sent me a cheque for the amount I paid for him 10 yrs prior without me claiming. I would highly highly reccomend them from my experience

I am with M&S and am just about to put my first claim in, although only for a relatively small amount, around £150. I have heard very good things about M&S which why I went with them.

However, I was chatting with Gill, one of my vets receptionists and she has been told that you can go direct to M&S underwriters, which is much cheaper AND they will view it as continuation of your previous policy. I may be able to confirm this or not after I see her this weekend.

Hi all,

I have to say, Insurance is such a tricky one. I used to do all the insurance claims when I worked at the vets for 10 years, nearly all of them have problems at some point. I think it boils down to affordability and making sure its cover for life.

I have 1 gd and 3 siamese, with pet plan I was quoted approx £135 per month for them all!! Thats £1620 per year!!! Great cover, and no doubt pet plan pay out (most the time and sometimes they take an age too!)...but my car, van and house insurance dont amount to that much, its ridiclous!! Pet-insurance.co.uk quoted me for all my animals, cover £4,000 per month of cover and per condition, yes per month & condition, cover for life...... £30.87 pm the lot!!!! It covers all the standard vet bills, pay outs and kennels, death, 3rd party liability etc... and excess pretty high at £145 for gd and £105 for cats... but I'm only interested in making sure im covered for massive bills..into thousands,... so thats suits us. I can afford £30.87 per month for 3 pedigree siamese and 1 great dane!!! I beleive they my be underwritten by E & L, but I will keep on top of claims and even if i have to wait i think its worth the saving!!

I recommend when doing claim forms for any insurance, get the vet to fill in and then pick up and take photo copies, then send recorded delivery. Call a few days later and check they have. Then phone a week after to see how claim progressing. If they play silly buggers, call them daily (ask for direct number or email address) for progress and say your happy to send in a copy of the claim and tell them you will phone daily. They hate that!!! Take names each time and ask for them directly, and find out who is dealing with the claim so you can keep on top of it.

No doubt I'll be writing a post one day moaning about E& L though!! LOL!!!

:P
