Hi,
I am actually going to give it to all of them not just JJ. I think people are using it as a preventative measure on the basis you don't know when or if bloat strikes. So some people are giving it to them as puppies and all through their lives. Those that have been on this supplement haven't bloated. And when one person ran out of the supplement for a few weeks One of their Danes bloated. I know it's a very small sample of Danes to base it on but I will give it a whirl! It's not expensive as a large tub (I've ordered a 5lb tub) lasts a long time if you have several Danes.

Under digestive products click on Dogszymes Digestive Enhancer. It's a powder and you put like a teaspoon in their food and it's supposed to prevent bloat. Apparently some people swear by it. I think I will get some for JJ who bloated last New Year's Eve.

What a great web site, i lost one of my dogs to bloat last week, by the time the vet came out the stomach had twisted and due to his age 13 we could not offer him surgery (he had never bloated before) he was put to sleep in my arms in his own bed at home, the advanced stages of vomitting and foaming are terible and it broke my heart, i have been looking for a product called Mylanta gas X which contains simethicone and was told at early signs if you adminster it can stop the illness proving fatal, having looked on the web site you gave they have a bloating kit and although it would be terrible to have to use the block and tube if it saves lives then its only a good thing, i have 3 other dogs and this is now a real worry for me as one of them eats very quickly (2 Dalamatains and a Dane)

I got my tub last week in the post and I have been putting it in all the Danes' evening meal. I don't think anyone can predict when bloat will strike and your Dane managed to get to thirteen without bloating! Yes it's a vile problem and one which owners probably beat themselves up about the most. But by giving them this powder in their food it's not only, should I say hopefully, help prevent the Danes from bloating but it must have a beneficial effect generally on their health and condition.
I don't think I could cope with the 'bloating kit'! I suppose some people in the States live a long way away from their vet and it's better than nothing. But in my case my Veterinary Practice is open 24/7 and 15-20 mins drive away. But if I catch them in the later stages of bloat......it may be useful as a means of trying to relieve pressure from their heart and lungs. Hmmm I will look at that and talk to my vet. Certainly worth thinking about and if it was a matter of life and death I possibly might not be such a wimp!

Duffy always used to be a steady eater but then he switched to bolting his food, which then came back up within five minutes. Objects in the bowl didn't work, so I bought a Slow Feed Bowl by Animal Instincts. It has solved the problem because he has no option but to eat his food slowly.
